Da Nang in 4 days: the essentials plus Ba Na Hills

The fourth day lets you add one big excursion. In the base version that is Ba Na Hills; if you prefer a scenic road, choose Hai Van and Lang Co instead.

The decision that matters

Ba Na Hills and Hai Van compete for the fourth day. Choose either the park and the Golden Bridge or the road, the lagoon and the landscape — do not try to join them.

Day 01My Khe → Non Nuoc → Hai Chau

Sea, the Marble Mountains and an evening in the centre

Starting in the city helps you understand the distances and check the weather for the three open-air days ahead.

The rule of the day is to cross the city in one arc: the sea first, then the southern landmark, and back to the centre and the Han River once the heat eases.

full but with no long day trip

Sunrise at My Khe

Check the sunrise time for your own date. Walking or swimming depends on the flags and the sea you can actually see; breakfast on the coast comes straight after.

The Marble Mountains and Non Nuoc village

Thuy Son, the pagodas, Huyen Khong Cave and the viewpoints. You need shoes for the steps; the lift shortens the climb but does not remove the walking. If you still have energy, add the neighbouring stone-carving village without creating a new transfer.

Lunch and a break from the heat

Stop in My An or go back to your accommodation. This is a time reserve, not dead time: without it the evening turns into a race.

Museum of Cham Sculpture and Bach Dang

The museum gives context to the Marble Mountains and to My Son. Then walk along the river, visit a market or stop for coffee, depending on your energy.

The Han River and Dragon Bridge

Check the current show and road-closure calendar: the fire and water performance is not a daily guarantee.

How to travel

A taxi or a car with a driver is the simplest option. The coast, the Marble Mountains and the centre normally need separate short rides; leave a margin for traffic.

Plan B

In heavy rain, move the Marble Mountains and build an indoor day instead: Cham Museum → Da Nang Museum or the Fine Arts Museum → a market → a long lunch and coffee.

Do not combine

Do not add Hoi An or Ba Na Hills here. They turn your introduction to the city into a day of transfers.

Day 02An Bang or Tra Que → the Ancient Town → the Hoai River

Hoi An without the backtrack

Hoi An comes before Son Tra: after a late evening, the next day does not demand the earliest possible departure to a mountain park.

The right geometry runs from the coast or the countryside towards the Ancient Town and stays there until dark. There is no need to go back from the centre to the beach and then return for the lanterns.

late start, culture and evening

Leaving Da Nang

After a calm morning, head south. Travel time depends on your district and on traffic.

Open the detailed guide →

Choose one: lunch at An Bang or a walk through Tra Que

In the hottest hours An Bang is mostly about lunch and shade; swim only where the flags allow it, when the sea is suitable and there is a comfortable window of daylight. Tra Que is a rural landscape with pauses in the shade. Do not try to do both properly.

The Ancient Town before the evening peak

Ticketed heritage buildings, old houses, the bridge and the small museums. Check which sites the ticket includes and their hours on the day of your visit.

Open the detailed guide →

An early dinner and the shift into evening Hoi An

Stay in the centre: an early dinner shortens the queue, and the lanterns and evening light arrive with the actual dusk on your date — with no extra transfer.

A walk by the river and the way back

The boat is an option, not a required part of the evening. Agree a meeting point with your driver in advance and do not accept an unclear price on the spot.

How to travel

A car, an official taxi or a transfer agreed in advance gives you a predictable return. If you stay overnight, choose the accommodation before the trip rather than after the evening walk.

Plan B

In ordinary rain, keep the heritage houses, museums, cafes and dinner. If there is a flood warning or severe weather, postpone the trip and do not rely on old photographs of the streets.

Do not combine

Do not put An Bang after the Ancient Town and then return for the lanterns — that is exactly the pointless detour the old plan contained.

Day 03Man Thai → Linh Ung → the accessible part of Son Tra

Son Tra without chasing every viewpoint

A light half day on the peninsula separates the late Hoi An evening from the early Ba Na Hills start; if you are tired, the branch can be shortened.

Son Tra changes with cloud, wind and road access. The official tourism portal suggests several half-day or full-day branches; choose one according to today's access, the weather and your transport.

half a day of nature plus a free evening

Man Thai and a morning on the fishing shore

A short walk and breakfast north of central My Khe. Do not get in the way of the boats or enter the unloading areas; swim only where the flags allow it and the sea itself is suitable.

Linh Ung Pagoda

Take your time with the complex and the view over the city. Dress appropriately for a religious site.

One of the two official branches

Branch A: Linh Ung → the heritage banyan → Tien Sa Lighthouse → the Marina, Ca Chuon or Dong Dinh. Branch B: Vong Canh or Ban Co → Linh Ung → the Marina, Ca Chuon or Dong Dinh. These are options, not a promise of access: check which roads are open on the day.

Lunch and back to the sea

After the mountain road you need a calm block. Resting in the afternoon beats trying to reach the southern edge of the city.

A free Da Nang evening

Beach, massage, coffee or dinner in An Thuong. This evening is deliberately light, because a bigger day follows.

How to travel

Without confident experience and the right documents, choose a car with a driver. A scooter requires a legal licence, a helmet, a roadworthy bike, daylight and a dry, open road. Ride in the morning or the late afternoon, take water, protect your head and skin from the sun, take breaks and do not disturb the animals.

Plan B

Low cloud or a wet road is a reason to swap the peninsula for a city museum, a coffee shop, a spa or an indoor class — not to look for a way around.

Do not combine

The official portal groups these points into several options, but it does not guarantee that every road is open today. Do not mix the two branches and do not look for a detour around a closed section.

Day 04Da Nang → Ba Na Hills → Da Nang

Ba Na Hills as one separate full day

Ba Na Hills gets its own day and an early start after a calm evening — with no attempt to add another destination.

This is not a quick stop at the Golden Bridge but a large mountain resort. Visibility, wind and cable-car operations matter more than the schedule in a saved social-media post.

early start and a lot of walking

Check the status, the weather and your ticket

Confirm the official cable-car operating hours, what your ticket includes and the forecast for the mountain zone specifically. The weather at the coast and at the top can differ.

Open the detailed guide →

The drive and the entrance

An early start leaves a margin for the ticket desk, parking, the queue and the cable-car line you need. During the trial period from 08.08 to 31.12.2026 the official portal also reports free shuttles from the centre at 08:30 and 09:30, with a return departure at 15:00; check the status before you leave.

The Golden Bridge and the gardens

Start with the main open-air view if it is available. Do not promise yourself an empty bridge: the crowd depends on the day and on group arrivals.

French Village, lunch and a pause

First check whether the restaurant or buffet you want is part of your ticket. Leave time simply to warm up or wait out a cloud.

Fantasy Park or a second visit to a favourite area

With children, the rides make more sense; without them, do not try to see everything. Head back according to the current cable-car timetable.

How to travel

The simplest option is a return transfer with a fixed meeting point. The trial free shuttle running until 31.12.2026 is announced from the Novotel with stops at East Sea Park, opposite My Khe near DLG, opposite Vegas Club and at Premier Village; booking is not mentioned, but recheck the timetable and seat availability. Compare an organised tour with an independent trip using the same list of inclusions.

Plan B

Fog does not always cancel the visit, but it removes the main views. In a thunderstorm, strong wind or with cable-car restrictions, choose a city day and move the mountains.

Do not combine

Do not combine Ba Na Hills with Hoi An, Hue or Hai Van: these are separate full destinations.

Why this route holds together

Four rules
instead of a minute-by-minute illusion.

01

One main arc a day

North, south, west and the centre are not mixed into one day just because the pins fit on a single map screen.

02

Times are a guide

Journeys depend on your district, on traffic and on the weather. The site fixes the order of the blocks, not your minute of arrival.

03

Weather changes the order

Open-air and mountain days move around the city day. A road or sea restriction always beats a saved plan.

04

The free block is compulsory

The midday pause absorbs heat, tiredness and delay. Water, a hat and sun protection belong in the plan as much as tickets and transport.

Quick answers

Frequently asked questions

What should you add to a three-day itinerary?+

Ba Na Hills if the Golden Bridge and the family park matter; Hai Van and Lang Co if nature and the road matter more; a free beach day if rest is the point of the holiday.

Can you put Ba Na Hills after a late Hoi An evening?+

Only with an early return and enough sleep. The base order already places a lighter Son Tra day between them; if you rearrange the days, do not put a late Hoi An and an early Ba Na Hills back to back.

Which day should you move when it rains?+

The city block is the most robust. Rearrange Son Tra, Ba Na Hills and the open-air parts of Hoi An around it, following the forecast and the official restrictions.
