The decision that matters

If you have not recovered from the flight, start day 2 with the Marble Mountains after breakfast and skip the sunrise. Hue works better as a two-day replacement for days 8–9; the Cham Islands depend on the sea, and the western eco-parks replace rather than extend day 10.

After proper sleep the city route opens up; if you are still tired, skip the sunrise and start with the Marble Mountains after breakfast.

The rule of the day is to cross the city in one arc: the sea first, then the southern landmark, and back to the centre and the Han River once the heat eases.

How to travel

A taxi or a car with a driver is the simplest option. The coast, the Marble Mountains and the centre normally need separate short rides; leave a margin for traffic.

Plan B

In heavy rain, move the Marble Mountains and build an indoor day instead: Cham Museum → Da Nang Museum or the Fine Arts Museum → a market → a long lunch and coffee.

Do not combine

Do not add Hoi An or Ba Na Hills here. They turn your introduction to the city into a day of transfers.

The peninsula gets its own nature morning so the mountain road is not mixed with the south or the west.

Son Tra changes with cloud, wind and road access. The official tourism portal suggests several half-day or full-day branches; choose one according to today's access, the weather and your transport.

How to travel

Without confident experience and the right documents, choose a car with a driver. A scooter requires a legal licence, a helmet, a roadworthy bike, daylight and a dry, open road. Ride in the morning or the late afternoon, take water, protect your head and skin from the sun, take breaks and do not disturb the animals.

Plan B

Low cloud or a wet road is a reason to swap the peninsula for a city museum, a coffee shop, a spa or an indoor class — not to look for a way around.

Do not combine

The official portal groups these points into several options, but it does not guarantee that every road is open today. Do not mix the two branches and do not look for a detour around a closed section.

Day 04An Bang or Tra Que → the Ancient Town → the Hoai River

Hoi An without the backtrack

Hoi An gets a late start and a direct geometry, and the following day is deliberately left free.

The right geometry runs from the coast or the countryside towards the Ancient Town and stays there until dark. There is no need to go back from the centre to the beach and then return for the lanterns.

Choose one: lunch at An Bang or a walk through Tra Que

In the hottest hours An Bang is mostly about lunch and shade; swim only where the flags allow it, when the sea is suitable and there is a comfortable window of daylight. Tra Que is a rural landscape with pauses in the shade. Do not try to do both properly.

An early dinner and the shift into evening Hoi An

Stay in the centre: an early dinner shortens the queue, and the lanterns and evening light arrive with the actual dusk on your date — with no extra transfer.

A walk by the river and the way back

The boat is an option, not a required part of the evening. Agree a meeting point with your driver in advance and do not accept an unclear price on the spot.

How to travel

A car, an official taxi or a transfer agreed in advance gives you a predictable return. If you stay overnight, choose the accommodation before the trip rather than after the evening walk.

Plan B

In ordinary rain, keep the heritage houses, museums, cafes and dinner. If there is a flood warning or severe weather, postpone the trip and do not rely on old photographs of the streets.

Do not combine

Do not put An Bang after the Ancient Town and then return for the lanterns — that is exactly the pointless detour the old plan contained.

The day that saves the whole trip

The first buffer takes the late return from Hoi An, a postponement due to rain, or one confirmed activity.

This is not a lost day but a buffer for weather, tiredness and the place you want to see again. Only one activity chosen in advance stays compulsory.

Ba Na Hills as one separate full day

You reach Ba Na Hills rested; in poor mountain weather the park swaps with the city day 7.

This is not a quick stop at the Golden Bridge but a large mountain resort. Visibility, wind and cable-car operations matter more than the schedule in a saved social-media post.

Confirm the official cable-car operating hours, what your ticket includes and the forecast for the mountain zone specifically. The weather at the coast and at the top can differ.

The drive and the entrance

An early start leaves a margin for the ticket desk, parking, the queue and the cable-car line you need. During the trial period from 08.08 to 31.12.2026 the official portal also reports free shuttles from the centre at 08:30 and 09:30, with a return departure at 15:00; check the status before you leave.

The Golden Bridge and the gardens

Start with the main open-air view if it is available. Do not promise yourself an empty bridge: the crowd depends on the day and on group arrivals.

French Village, lunch and a pause

First check whether the restaurant or buffet you want is part of your ticket. Leave time simply to warm up or wait out a cloud.

Fantasy Park or a second visit to a favourite area

With children, the rides make more sense; without them, do not try to see everything. Head back according to the current cable-car timetable.

How to travel

The simplest option is a return transfer with a fixed meeting point. The trial free shuttle running until 31.12.2026 is announced from the Novotel with stops at East Sea Park, opposite My Khe near DLG, opposite Vegas Club and at Premier Village; booking is not mentioned, but recheck the timetable and seat availability. Compare an organised tour with an independent trip using the same list of inclusions.

Plan B

Fog does not always cancel the visit, but it removes the main views. In a thunderstorm, strong wind or with cable-car restrictions, choose a city day and move the mountains.

Do not combine

Do not combine Ba Na Hills with Hoi An, Hue or Hai Van: these are separate full destinations.

Day 07Hai Chau → Thanh Khe → Bach Dang

The city from the inside: museums, market, coffee and the river

The market, one museum, coffee and the promenade bring back the local rhythm after a big ticketed park.

This day assembles Da Nang from its history, its food and its everyday centre rather than from postcards. It also works as a strong replacement in bad weather.

Day 08Nam O → Hai Van Gate → Lang Co / Lap An

The northern arc: Nam O, Hai Van and Lang Co

The northern arc uses a whole clear day and ends before dark, with no continuation to Hue.

The northern route builds up in sequence along the coast and the pass. Its value is the road and the landscape, so poor visibility makes hurrying pointless.

Nam O — an optional first stop

The fishing history and the fish-sauce craft sit naturally on the way. The reef depends on the tide and the weather; do not promise yourself a particular view without checking.

Hai Van Gate and the pass

Stop only where it is permitted and safe. Cloud and rain are a reason to shorten the route, not to speed up.

Lang Co and Lap An

Lunch by the water, the lagoon or the beach, depending on the weather and your interest. Swim only by the flags and the sea you can actually see. Agree the price of seafood before you order.

Back before dark

Leave a margin before nightfall and do not add Hue. The evening in Da Nang should stay free.

How to travel

For most travellers a car with a driver is more comfortable. A motorbike requires documents, mountain-road experience, a roadworthy machine and good weather; this site does not recommend working around restrictions.

Plan B

If the pass is closed in cloud or the road is wet, keep the northern route for another day. A city museum, a market and coffee give you a more honest day than a trip taken just to tick it off.

Do not combine

Do not continue to Hue simply because you are already in the north: the imperial city needs its own day, and preferably a night.

A reset before My Son

The second buffer differs from day 5: it protects the early start and the attention you need for Cham history tomorrow.

The second flexible day is not there to repeat the programme but to let you recover before an early historical departure and to absorb anything moved by the weather.

The finale is devoted to My Son as an independent cultural destination; pairing it with Hoi An stays an alternative, not the base.

In the base editorial model the sanctuary gets its own day, which leaves room for the museum, the temple groups and a rest after the heat. The official portal allows pairing it with Hoi An, but that is already a longer cultural scenario.

The official guidance is roughly 45–50 km and 1 hr 15 min–1 hr 30 min from Da Nang; from Hoi An it is about 35 km and 45–60 minutes. Arriving early reduces the heat and leaves time for the museum.

Take the context in the museum first, then walk to the complexes. The official source publishes a typical schedule of cultural performances, but you still need to confirm it for your date.

Do not book a fixed table in Da Nang immediately afterwards: the drive and the time inside the complex can both shift.

The return and a rest

After the heat you need a free block. Add the craft village only if the logistics are arranged in advance and you are genuinely interested.

A quiet dinner

Do not add another major sight. A historical day ends better without a new checklist.

How to travel

A car with a driver, a taxi with agreed waiting time, or a tour with a clear list of inclusions. You need comfortable clothes and shoes, water, sun protection and a hat; in the rainy season, an umbrella or a light raincoat. A guide is useful on a first visit: without the context, part of the meaning is lost.

Plan B

Strong heat calls for an early start; heavy rain calls for postponement. In the city, replace the trip with the Cham Museum and other indoor cultural stops.

Do not combine

Do not combine My Son with Ba Na Hills. Pairing it with Hoi An is possible and is mentioned by the official source, but the editors do not use it as the default: it produces a long day that needs an early start and transport arranged in advance.

Is everything within a 100 km radius?+

Most of the base destinations fit roughly inside that radius, but the distance depends on your starting point and the road. Hue sits at or beyond the edge of that circle and is more sensibly planned with an overnight stay.

How do you add the Cham Islands?+

Put them in place of My Son or Hai Van, and only after the sailing and sea conditions are confirmed. Do not buy a non-refundable trip based only on the general season.

Where do you fit western Da Nang?+

Hoa Bac suits nature and the local community, Hoa Phu Thanh an active format, Dong Giang a long mountain day. Choose one destination instead of day 10.

Do you need a scooter for ten days?+

Not necessarily. The city is covered by short taxi rides, and long mountain routes are safer with suitable transport and a driver. Renting only makes sense with legal documents and real experience.
